Where Do You See Yourself In 5 Years? | NC Lifestyle & Documentary Photographer

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Some days I can barely decide where to start and what to do first. It’s why I must have my day planned out and scheduled ahead of time, otherwise I’m floundering. It can make this seemingly simple question about where I want to be in 5-years a bit tricky. It’s not that I don’t have goals or dreams. No, it’s not that at all. I've just dropped the ball on getting it down on paper or in some form that is visible and check-off-able ✔

I am self-diagnosed ADHD & dyslexic, and the combo (for me) creates a massive clutter of ideas and thoughts with no order and it makes it challenging for me to keep focused on any particular task. So, I’ve lived by ‘to-do’ lists and calendars for years when it came to the ‘important’ stuff. What I’ve come to realize is that my list has primarily been about the daily ‘to-dos’ with little focus on the grand picture—the larger goals—and rarely was importance placed my own particular needs, until this year.

My 5-Year Vision

But, this year is different. It's all about transformation for me and getting clear on all my interests and passions. Passions and interests like:

--holistic healing and wellness (holistic health coaching #nutritionschool);

--fitness and fun (doing movement that I LOVE);

--photographing people, places and things--all over the world--that fuel my mission to create ‘feeling’ and meaning and connection in my imagery;

--storytelling via imagery and words (books, journals, poetry, articles, courses);

-- working service and charitable giving/gifting into all areas of my life and creating more personalized value-packed experiences for my clients (creating scholarships; volunteering my time and services to orphanages; selling products & experiences that give back).

The time spent getting clear on my long-term goals has been well spent and brought on a clarity that I haven’t experienced before now.

So, here’s what I do know:

What the 5-Year Version of Me looks like

In 5-years, I see myself wiser, kinder, healthier in mind, body & spirit. I see myself as humble and grateful for how far I have come and all I have achieved and given back. I see myself mentoring, educating, and documenting with greater purpose and passion, with the freedom, flexibility and time to devote to my family and friends as well as serving others at my greatest capacity by empowering and influencing others to be seen, to be understood, to be the best versions of themselves, to push past their fears and chase their dreams.

I’m putting in the work now to make this vision a reality by investing in myself and in others that have successfully achieved their goals in the areas of my interests; by saying ‘yes’ to things that light me up and creating multiple career paths that help me serve more people in more meaningful and purposeful ways; by honoring my time and structuring my days; by putting in the long hours both on-scene and behind-the-scenes; and by honoring my body with rest, with nourishing foods, with plenty of water; and by feeding my mind with healthy content daily.
